On April, 4th along with my coaching staff I was able to attend the United Soccer Coaches Association “Open Training Session” with the Philadelphia Union and the Villanova University Men’s soccer team. While in Chester, we had the opportunity to meet and talk soccer with Union Head coach, Jim Curtin. During this time we were able to ask him questions ranging from a technical and tactical view point to handling player egos.
After our meet and greet with Jim, we spent a few hours at their training session, getting a first hand view of their training methods. Once the training session was over, we were given a tour of The Power Training Complex, where the Union train and have all of their weight training, therapy, and video sessions.
Later in the day we drove over to Villanova University. While at Nova we were able to spend time with their coaching staff sharing advice, workout plans, and technical drills. After our coaches discussions, the Wildcat’s trained for 90 minutes as we observed from the sidelines. Upon the completion of the session we were able to sit down with the coaching staff again and discuss the session and ask questions about their training session.
This opportunity to talk soccer and watch the best players and coaches in the area train was incredible. As a staff, we were able to come away with several tips and tricks to improve as coaches and to help improve each player in our program. We are already looking forward to the Open Training Sessions in the Spring of 2019! #P.U.S.H.
