We are excited to have a fund raising event for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. Students and their families are invited
on February 22nd from 6 to 8 pm at the middle school, to participate in February Family Fun Night.
The purpose of the event is to help South Western seniors raise money for their Student of the Year Campaign through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer. The LLS mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Leukemia is the most common cancer in children, adolescents and anyone under the age of 20.
We are asking for a $15 donation at the door from each family. All proceeds will go directly to the campaign. Please help us to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients by coming out to play games, eat free snacks and dance the night away.
LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world and provides free information and support services. Every 3 minutes someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer, and every 10 minutes someone dies from that disease. We hope that you are willing to participate and help your child give to fund the research to stop these deadly diseases . We are finding a cure not someday but today!
Just a reminder that due to our snow days on January 17th and today.
School will now be in session on: Friday, February 16, 2018 and Monday, February 19, 2018.
Should we have any additional weather closures the days will be made up on Thursday, March 29th and Monday, April 2nd.
Enjoy your day and be safe!
What is STEM learning?
STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Engaging learners with an integrated studies approach that combines science, technology, engineering, and math is important because these topics pervade every part of our lives. Science is everywhere in the world around us. We all know technology is continuously expanding into every aspect of our lives. Engineering is the basic design of roads and bridges, but also tackles the challenges of changing global weather and environmentally-friendly changes in our homes. Mathematics is in every occupation – every activity we do in our lives.
Succeeding in the 21st century means learning how to think, not what to think.
STEM education creates critical thinkers, increases science literacy, and enables the next generation of innovators. Innovation leads to new products and processes that sustain our economy. This innovation and science literacy depends on a solid knowledge base in the STEM areas. It is clear that most jobs of the future will require a basic understanding of math and science.
What is STEAM learning?
Give me an A!!! Adding an *A* to STEM learning means adding in the ARTS. STEAM is – science, technology, engineering, ARTS and mathematics. STEAM is an interdisciplinary method aimed at helping students develop vital transferrable skills and learning across subjects, through experimentation, trial and error and creativity.
