South Western School District


The South Western School District is located in southern York County and includes Penn, Manheim, and West Manheim Townships.  The school district encompasses 56 square miles and is home to approximately 26,149 residents. The district surrounds the Borough of Hanover and shares numerous services and facilities with the Hanover Borough, including Hanover Hospital, the YMCA, YWCA, the Hanover Evening Sun, and local radio station WHVR/WYCR.

Codorus State Park is located within the South Western School District.  This park includes over 3,200 acres of woodland and features a man-made lake with 26 miles of shoreline.  Boating, fishing, hiking, camping, and swimming are among the activities to be enjoyed at the park.

A variety of businesses and industries give stability to the local economy and constructively influence the educational programs of the schools.  Area products include canned and frozen foods, wire cloth, shoes, furniture and building products, paper and related products, potato chips and other snacks, welding rods, agricultural chemicals, clothing, and metal products.

The district includes four K-5 elementary schools:  Manheim, West Manheim, Baresville, and Park Hills.  Grades 6-8 are housed in the Emory H. Markle Intermediate SchoolSouth Western High School provides a comprehensive high school program for students in grades 9-12.
