2015-2016 Book Study

August 27, 2015

EmpoweringLeadership_Print-6x9_200x300During the 2015-2016 school year, several librarians in the South Western School District have selected to use the AASL publication Empowering Leadership by Ann M. Martin (2013) to facilitate a professional book study.  This text was selected in the summer of 2013 for the members of the Pennsylvania School Librarians’ Association Advisory Board to read as leaders in the organization.  In the spring of 2015, district librarian, Mrs. Shannon Resh, presented a workshop in collaboration with Dr. Jill Wenrich, district Assistant Superintendent on the text using the Socratic Seminar as the vehicle for learning.  Using the information created within the district for this book study, four of the South Western School District librarians selected the text to discuss and reflect to enhance and improve leadership skills.  This blog is a result of the book study.  Look to the numbered headers that correlate with each section of the publication.  The librarians met on five separate occasions with focus on one section at a time.  There is static information on each section page that served as a springboard for discussion, with notes, observations, and key points listed as comments below the static post.

Participants in the 2015-2016 professional book study include:
Mrs. Diane Greenholt, South Western High School Librarian
Ms. Kimberly Porter, Emory H. Markle Intermediate School Librarian
Mrs. Stacey Fisher, West Manheim Elementary School Librarian
Mrs. Shannon Resh, Park Hills Elementary School Librarian
