Chapter 8, Section 1: How Governments Work Together

We live under three levels of government – local, state and federal. Without cooperation amongst each of these levels everyday life would not run smoothly. In this assignment, you need to peruse on-line news sites and find at least 2 examples of how two different levels of government are working together. Use the examples discussed in class to help you in your search. When you have found your examples, write a well-developed paragraph that briefly summarizes your article/document and explains how the different levels of government were working together. You must write a separate paragraph for each article. Remember to include the link of the site for your source in your postings. This assignment will be worth 20 points and will be graded according to the class “Blog Posting Rubric.”

The Bill of Rights – “Future Fright”

After viewing the film, “Future Fright”, write a paragraph explaining the rights that were denied to the people in the film. In your paragraph, be sure to explain whether you believe this could really occur in the United States. Explain your answer in depth by using several statements that support your position. You must also reply to at least 3 of your classmates’ entries. This assignment will be graded on a 10-8-6-I scale according to your Blog Posting Rubric below.

Chapter 2 – The Purposes of Government

Use the “World Wide Web” to find two articles describing the activities of the National, State or Local governments. Each article only needs to describe one level of government functioning in one of its roles. Then complete the following:

1. Decide which purpose of government each article illustrates.

2. Briefly summarize the articles in your “Blog Posting” and explain how the government is carrying out the function that you have stated in #1.

3. You must include the web address for the articles that you are summarizing in your “blog post.”

4. Each article will be worth is ten points (10-8-6) and will be graded based on the “blog posting rubric” that you can find by using the link below.
