In this course, students will identify their own belief statements about classrooms and student achievement, examine elements of school climate that relate to effective teaching and to student attitudes toward learning, explore and examine research and theory pertaining to the importance of establishing a classroom climate to foster student learning and engagement, evaluate a variety of techniques educators might use to create classroom climates in which students choose to do the work of learning, evaluate their own current classroom climate and determine areas of refinement needed, and explain the rationale for including specific elements of classroom climate into their own classroom plan.
